There is a 3/8-in.-wide gap between the 2 boards in the bottom side of the box. There is some deterioration of some of the wood panels, with cavities, cracks, knots, and splintering present. This could be called decay, but it is not weathered, because the wood surfaces are still relatively smooth. The 4 metal hinges have light corrosion and rust on them, but they still rotate freely. Some nails are not fully inserted, such that they are not flush with the wood surfaces. The nails and screws are rusted, but still secure. There is some loose debris on some of the wood.
