Location: Rock Rapids, IA
I have a herd of solid, sturdy rambouillet ewes for sale. These ewes are bred to begin lambing on May 15. Originating in Western Wyoming, these middle-age (5 years) ewes are in excellent condition and have been bag-checked at the end of the last lambing season. This starter herd would be a great opportunity for someone wanting to get into the sheep business. Here are some reasons why you should consider rambouillet sheep. * VERSATILITY - Meat - Breeding - Youth Projects - Showing * Successful out-of-season breeders suitable for an accelerated lambing program * Great adaptability to hot and cold climates, and a variety of forage conditions * Ewes are prolific; Good milkers with strong maternal instincts * Known as "dual purpose" breed with excellent weight gains and wool production * Resistance to disease/parasites * Farm-bred ewes will frequently exceed a 180% lamb crop * Valued for production efficiency and "easy-care" nature General facts about rambouillet sheep: * Depending on conditions, lifespan can be upwards of 10-12 years * Mature ewe fleece will weigh 8 - 18 lbs. with a yield of 35-55% * The average ewes may lamb more than once per year (3 times lambing in 2 years) * Large-sized, rugged, and long-lived with strong flocking instinct * This breed possesses many desirable traits which have resulted in their inclusion in cross-breeding programs to improve lamb production.
